Linking up with Meghan over at Clean Eats, Fast Feets for this one.
It’s been like 3 weeks since I’ve posted on here, and a month since I’ve done a Week in Review post. Oops.
So, what’s been going on?
My staycation went well: I did a deep clean of the apartment, one room per day. I read like 10 books that week (SO GREAT). Did a good bit of writing (But gave up on NaNo. 😦 ). Did a 5k fun run.
Since then:
My grandma was in the hospital the week before Thanksgiving, then had to be moved from her Assisted Living place to a nursing home. Baby Brother and I saw her on Thanksgiving.
She was very weak and sick then, and she scared us. She’s 89, and has a weak heart, so…the week after Thanksgiving, my dad flew in for a few days, and we surprised her. She was so happy to see him! She kept patting his had and saying “My baby boy!” Then we played dominoes with her all day and just hung out.
I’ve gotten a bit lazy with the healthy eating, and have gained back 6 or 7 pounds, but that changes today. Meal-prepping and food-tracking for the win!
Last week, I ran a 10k, The Chocoholic Frolic..

So, the two or three weeks before the race, I’d been having some pain in my upper thigh/hip during running. I saw my doc for a check-up the Thursday before the race and mentioned it to him. He said it was probably tendonitis and offered me a shot and steroids, which I refused, because the pain was so minor. Big mistake.
The race was on concrete. Half a mile in, my leg started hurting pretty badly. And it was in the 40s and damp. I ended up walking quite a bit, usually for less than 5 minutes at a time. I finished the race in 1:17:14, about 12 minutes slower than I’d hoped, but I finished. And went back to the doctor the next day, gladly accepting the steroids. I haven’t ran for a week now, and I’ve been taking it easy and stretching. I ordered a foam roller yesterday, so I’m going to use that daily, along with stretching, as we’re about to start half-marathon training.
Post-race reward:
Also this:
Yes, this pasta was exactly as horrible as it looks. You’re welcome. Don’t judge me. I was tired, cold, and in pain. I needed comfort food! Not pictured: piece of praline cheesecake that I took home for dinner.
Now you see why I have to get back on-track?
Onward and upward!
Food ups and downs happen so take it one step at a time. I find moderation works way better than feast or famine. Also, way to go on all that running. I’m impressed.
Welcome back. It’s nice to have you.
