I missed last week, so I’ll try to cover two weeks here. Briefly. Off the top of my head, because I’m pretty exhausted. Also, my internet keeps going out, so it’s a toss-up how long I’ll be able to fight my irritation and keep working on this post.
The week before last, I worked 3 days/40-ish hours.
We did a 7-mile hike, with packs, on a trail that had two miles of pretty tough hills/steps…where we saw one pretty big snake that refused to move off the trail, but eventually climbed a tree. Have you ever tried to hike while simultaneously trying to watch the ground AND above your head?
We followed this with a stop at REI, where I picked up a heavy-duty water canister for the Grand Canyon trip, plus a wicking shirt and undies, also for the hike. I ordered hiking poles that week, so now all I need is pants to wear, and the basics like food and electrolytes. Oh, and a stop at Steel City Pops because Texas in June ain’t no joke!
School started, so there was homework and school reading.
I worked two days, then my dad flew in on Thursday, so I had to pick him up at the airport and get him home. He’s 5 1/2 weeks post-surgery and isn’t supposed to travel, but with my grandmother on hospice, well, you do what you have to. Flying was hard for him, riding in a car for an hour to my apartment was hard.
Friday, we spent two hours driving to see my grandmother. The drive was rough. Seeing my grandmother…she knew us. She clung to my dad’s hand, and she kept looking between us both and smiling, but she can’t talk. She’s not eating or drinking. She’s very weak. It won’t be long. Apparently, I got my planning and organizational skills from her—as well as my height—because she has every detail planned of her funeral, and it’s written down clearly.
I’m not dealing too well, and I’m emotionally exhausted, so I’m going to leave it at that.
I did get four hour+ walks in last week, three of them with my 15-pound pack.
And Baby Brother cooked steak for himself, Dad, and me on Saturday.
Mine was the most done one…which was still medium. Note: I barely ate a quarter of this Porterhouse, which was over a pound. The rest is in the fridge…
